Ridley Scott Is Back in Top Form With The Martian

To say The Martian is Ridley Scott’s best movie in years isn’t saying much. So far this decade, he’s given us the pretty but utterly nonsensical Prometheus and the woefullyunderwhelming Exodus: Gods and Kings, plus Robin Hood and The Counselor, which…well, you’re not going to find a lot of people willing to go to bat for those two. Scott could have churned out something with half the vision and overall quality of earliersci-fi triumphs Blade Runner and Alien, and it still would have been a huge step up from the rut he’s found himself in over the last few years.

The Martian is a lot better than “half as good as Blade Runner and Alien.”
